The Guidance Department receives new scholarship & college information each week.  Please check the Scholarship & College pages to the left for updates on a regular basis!

Bright Futures Scholarship Changes

The Florida Bright Futures Scholarship program has made some important changes to their recipient qualifications. These include changes to the amount of community service hours required and changes to qualifying SAT or ACT scores. Below is a chart that summarizes these changes:

Florida Academic Scholars:

High School Graduation Year:	Community Service Hours Required:	Minimum SAT Score:	Minimum ACT Score
2011-2012	100	1270	28
2012-2013	100	1280	28
2013-2014 and thereafter	100	1290	29

Florida Medallion Scholars:

High School Graduation Year:	Community Service Hours Required:	Minimum SAT Score:	Minimum ACT Score
2011-2012	75	980	21
2012-2013	75	1020	22
2013-2014 and thereafter	75	1170	26

If your child is a junior or senior and has not taken the ACT or SAT, please be sure he/she signs up to do so. Information regarding test registration was given to each junior and senior. If you need additional registration information packets, please stop by the office.

Submit all accumulated community service hours to the school office on letterhead from the organization in which your child obtained the hours.

Letters went home in mid-October detailing each student's test scores and community service hours we have on record. If you misplaced your child's letter, please drop by the office for a new copy.

Advanced Placement Program

I have some exciting news for juniors and seniors who are interested in enhancing their transcripts and academic experience at WHCS. We are now going to offer Advanced Placement courses on our campus through Florida Virtual School! These classes will offer more variety and a greater challenge to qualifying students.
