Dual Enrollment

Dual enrollment is designed for academically talented students who want to accelerate their college careers. Dual enrollment can help offset college expenses for families, shorten the time it takes to earn a degree, and allow qualified students to reduce their course-load per term when they attend college full time. Dually enrolled students receive both high school and college credit upon successful completion of a dual enrollment course.

To begin the process of dual enrollment, there are several steps that you must follow:

1.) First, meet with Mrs. Zappone to determine if you qualify. (In order to qualify, you must have at least a 3.0 unweighted grade point average and be recommended by WHCS.)

2.) Complete the PHCC Dual Enrollment Application for Admission with Mrs. Zappone and receive from her a copy of your most current unweighted GPA on WHCS school letterhead.

3.) With Mrs. Zappone, determine whether or not you need to take the PERT at PHCC. The PERT is a test that is offered at PHCC to determine which classes you will be able to take as a dually enrolled student. You do not need an appointment to take it.

If you have taken the SAT or ACT and received high enough scores, you will not need to take the PERT. PHCC will use your SAT or ACT scores to determine which classes you are eligible to take. If you have taken the SAT or ACT, we will make sure you have a copy of your scores to take with you to PHCC.

4.) Go to PHCC and submit your application, SAT or ACT scores if applicable, GPA on WHCS official letterhead, and take the PERT test if you need to. After you take the PERT or after having your test scores reviewed, PHCC will give you a score report listing the classes you are eligible to take. Bring these back to WHCS so Mrs. Zappone can assist you in course selection if you are eligible.

5.) Mrs. Zappone will review your score report with you and help you select the appropriate college courses. You will fill out the Dual Enrollment Permission Form with her.

6.) Take the Dual Enrollment Permission Form to PHCC for approval.

7.) Begin taking classes!

Keep in mind that college level course grades will become a part of your permanent academic record. It is very important that you take the course in which you are enrolled seriously. If the course proves to be too difficult, you may drop or withdraw from the course, but you must do so according to the guidelines and timeline set up by PHCC.
